When Life Changes in Ways You Never Expected
Separation and divorce can affect so much more than a relationship. They can change your daily routines, family dynamics, friendships, sense of security, and hopes for the future.
You may be experiencing grief, anger, relief, uncertainty, or emotions that are difficult to put into words. Whatever has brought you here, there is room for your experience, without judgment or pressure to have everything figured out.
There Is No One Way to Experience Separation
- I'm grieving the future I thought we'd have.
- I'm trying to find myself again.
- I worry about how this is affecting my children.
- I'm exhausted by the conflict.
- I feel both relief and sadness.
- I don't know what comes next.

Divorce counselling FAQs
Do I need to be divorced or separated to begin counselling?
Not at all. You may be considering separation, navigating difficult relationship decisions, or adjusting to life after divorce. Counselling can offer space to explore your experiences and what matters most to you, wherever you are in the process.
Can counselling help with co-parenting challenges?
Counselling can provide space to explore communication, boundaries, parenting concerns, and the emotional challenges of raising children across changing family circumstances. The focus is on understanding your experiences and considering approaches that support your wellbeing and your children’s needs.
Can we attend counselling together if we're separating?
In some circumstances, yes. Couples or family counselling may be appropriate for partners navigating separation. We assess suitability individually, including the nature of the relationship, each person’s goals, and any relevant safety or conflict-of-interest concerns.
Is counselling confidential?
Confidentiality is an important part of the therapeutic relationship. Your privacy is protected in accordance with applicable professional and legal requirements, with certain exceptions that will be explained during the informed consent process.
Can you provide legal advice or parenting assessments?
No. Counselling is distinct from legal representation, mediation, parenting assessments, and court-ordered evaluations. Erica provides therapeutic support within her professional scope and can encourage you to seek appropriate legal or specialized services when needed.
Is counselling covered by insurance?
Group expectations around privacy and confidentiality will be reviewed before the group begins.
